BRCA 2

I recently found out through genetic testing that I am carrier for the BRCA 2 gene (breast cancer gene). This means that I have an up to 87% chance of getting breast cancer by the time I am 70 and a 10% chance of getting ovarian cancer. There are other cancers associated with this gene: stomach (in my family), pancreatic 7%, and melanoma.

The most effective risk reducing procedures includes surgically removing the tissue that is most affected by this gene (breasts and ovaries). Other options include increased surveillance, every six months.
